The class includes detailed one-on-one or two-on-one hands-on guidance to help you create refined, well-finished pieces. Throughout the course, we’ll work toward creating a well-thrown cup set (up to four pieces) and a matching tray that you can enjoy using every day or give as a special gift.
Week 1 – Throwing
This week focuses on building a strong foundation—you’ll learn to control the clay and develop a steady rhythm, which is essential for wheel throwing. Students will also practice creating cups with consistent sizes and shapes using a throwing gauge.
Week 2 – Throwing + Trimming
Trimming is a crucial step in shaping a pot. How you trim the foot can completely change the look and feel of your piece.
Students will learn how to refine the cup’s shape, trim the foot, and create a lightweight, comfortable design.
Week 3 – Trimming + Hand-building
Finish trimming your cups and choose your four favorite pieces to keep. Then, create a slab-built tray that complements your cup set. You can also attach a handle or hand-built sculpture to make your pieces truly one-of-a-kind. (Extra pieces can be fired for $20 each.)
Week 4 – Painting / Glazing**
Apply brush-on glazes/underglazes to add color and personality to your pieces. This final step makes your work truly unique.
**Note: Between Week 3 and Week 4, there may be a one-week gap for bisque firing. Students may return on a preferred date for the final class once their work has been bisque-fired. (Any schedule update will be announced in advance.)
Classes begin with a 15-minute demonstration and end with 15 minutes for cleaning.
Please arrive 10 minutes early to ensure the demonstration starts on time.
Class work will be completed within 2–4 weeks after the class, depending on the firing process.
We’ll contact you once it’s ready for pick-up.
Kindly be aware that the studio does not accept liability for cracked or damaged pieces.
It is understood that certain imperfections, like cracks, may occur naturally during the ceramic process.
